Summer!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 8:02 am

Yay it’s summer! Now that I have two months off from one job, maybe I can get around to blogging from time to time. Of course I’ll be home with my boys so maybe not. But I wouldn’t trade the time with the kids for anything. Here’s to hoping I get motivated!

Impressive

Filed under: general — Administrator @ 4:16 pm

Am I the only one who reads children’s/young adult books? I doubt it. Today I had the pleasure of finding a truly great book!
Anyone who has young children has probably heard of Lauren Childs, the author of the Charlie and Lola books. I found a slightly “older” book of hers called “Utterly Me, Clarice Bean” at the Goodwill a few weeks ago and started reading it to the boys today as part of our summer reading and Logan’s new facination with chapter books. So we read some and the boys liked it. As for myself, I can’t put the thing down! It’s so funny! You can almost hear the little girl talking in your head and it’s full of illustrations and fonts and such. It’s so cute!
So go read it if you feel the urge to just enjoy a book.

I got this in my email and of course donated a couple of books. I hope you can do the same.

Dear Friend,

My name is Mr. Bertrand Brown and I am a former teacher and the author of The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter and A Woman’s Worth, both novels. Blessed I was taught to always give back once you’ve succeeded. I have therefore founded The Literacy Library, a free tutorial service which focuses on helping those at-risk, disadvantaged teenagers who do not have either the resources or care needed to excel in school.

At present I have thirty-four students, many of whom are quite bright despite not having the foundation to reach their full academic potential. So at present we here at The Literacy Library are doing everything within our willpower to get them and keep them on task.

In the midst of our annual book drive I am only hoping that you can donate some books to keep them reading, focused and on-task.

So, what kinds of books do they like you may ask? And all I can say is that their tastes vary as much as their personalities but if you like it I’m sure that they will as well. So send any and everything. New, used it doesn’t matter. Anything from Danielle Steele to Alice Walker is welcomed and greatly appreciated.

If you feel it easier to send a gift certificate from Barnes & Nobles or Borders feel free. And if it’s your intention to send books you’ll find that by sending them at media or book rate it is very, very cheap.

I thank you for your time, support and caring.

Sincerely yours,
The Literacy Library

President Obama

I’m not going to get all political in a writing blog, but I have to say that I did watch the inauguration and as always made sure I voted in the big election. The country has just seen power change hands for the forty-fourth time. That is impressive.
Hail to the chief!

Typing

As some of you may know, my “muse” requires handwriting all of my manuscripts. I can type very well, and essays/blogs/etc are easy enough on a keyboard. However, for my fiction, it’s handwritten all the way. It’s just always been my thing and I don’t dare change it. I also require a bracelet on my right arm. It doesn’t seem to matter what kind of bracelet, but it should be one that doesn’t have to be removed at night. Right now it’s a braided cord that my mom gave me for Christmas. Give me my bracelet, a notebook (college ruled tyvm) and a pen (blue ink, please, medium point, preferably a Bic, Papermate smear too much for me) and I’m good to go.
That being said, I’ve had a project going on and off since I was about fifteen. It’s been rewritten, gutted, reformatted, you name it, over the years, and I’m really wanting to finish it. I think. Finishing it could be sad because I’ve been “living” with these characters for over half of my life and I think a lot of them will end up dead at the end. But that’s how the story goes.
So I’ve been typing up a storm. I’ve finished typing part one and most of the “prologue” parts. I think I will end up merging parts one and two into one book. Part three is also written, and part four is started. It’s a fantasy/scifi type good vs. evil story. I like it. And so far people that I’ve trusted with totally raw copy have liked it as well. As I get parts polished I might post more of it. So far its title is “The Entity and the Shadow” but I don’t like that. I know the title isn’t the important part, right now it’s just a folder to save stuff under. But one day I’ll have to come up with a good name for Jay Sansvol’s story.
Who knows. Maybe one day my magnum opus will be published, too. That would be above and beyond amazing.

Slacking

Wow I’ve been slacking badly with the author blog. Feel free to point and throw things, just don’t take away my pens! In a way it’s a good thing. I’ve been too busy reading and writing (not to mention working and doing holiday stuff with the family) to do much blogging. But, in honor of New Year’s, I’ll try my best to blog at least once a week. If nothing else it will be interesting to see just how I’m coming on my many projects.
For now, enjoy a cute meme:

Okay some serious real life stuff. A friend of mine is having some major surgery tomorrow so if everyone who takes the time to read this would send up some prayers it would be appreciated.
Good luck, Jason! Talk to you tomorrow night!

First post!

Okay this will probably be mostly writing-related. After all, with a Myspace and Livejournal account, how much more blogging can I really do? Although I’m sure I’ll end up cross posting a few things.
So right now I’m working on tweaking and setting up my site so bear with me. I am proud of the new page, my reading list. I’m curious to see just how much I do read.
And yes, the future posts will be more interesting, I’m sure ;)
